Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain Veneers

What is a Porcelain Veneer?

A porcelain veneer is a thin shell of porcelain that is bonded to a tooth to restore it’s color and shape or to give it a more desirable color and shape than it had before.

What will happen at my appointment?

It takes two or more appointments to restore teeth with veneers. At the first appointment, your teeth are shaped in order to prepare them for placement of the permanent veneer. We then take impressions of your teeth, which we use to make precise working models of your mouth. We send these models to a lab, where they artistically craft veneers to fit the prepared teeth. Before you leave the first appointment we will make temporary veneers so that no one will be able to tell your teeth have been “prepped.” At the second appointment we remove the temporary veneers and check the permanent ones for fit and aesthetics. Then we use an adhesive to bond the veneers to the teeth. A harmless, high intensity light hardens the adhesive. Once in place, the veneers virtually become part of your teeth, you have all the same functionality that your teeth had before. The final result is natural looking, beautiful teeth.

What are the advantages of a Porcelain Veneer?

  • Close spaces between the teeth
  • Lengthen smaller, misshapen teeth
  • Whiten stained or dark teeth
  • Restore teeth to their original looks if teeth become chipped or cracked
