Prevention
Although routine brushings and regular flossing are excellent for maintenance between office visits, regular examinations and cleanings are an absolute necessity for maintaining oral
health.
Periodontal Disease
Periodontal disease, or gingivitis, can cause serious health problems if left untreated. The disease is caused by excessive bacteria found in plaque whose toxins attack the gums teeth
and bone that surrounds the teeth.
Periodic brushing aids in preventing plaque build up but removal of tartar (mineralized plaque) requires professional help. Routine removal of tartar is the key to preventing periodontal
disease.
Early warning signs of the disease include red, swollen and bleeding gums.
