A Registered Dental Hygienist is a highly trained oral health professional that specializes in providing clinical, therapeutic and educational services to enhance oral and overall health. Before passing the National Boards, hygienists study chemistry, physiology, nutrition, microbiology, head and neck anatomy, oral pathology, pharmacology, radiology, and advanced dental science in addition to dental hygiene.
Hygienists serve many functions in our office. They carefully examine your teeth, mouth and gums at each visit. They look for signs of tooth decay, periodontal (gum) disease, oral cancer and other problems. You hygienist will also take x-rays as needed for the Doctor to review and make treatment recommendations.
Hygienists use specialized instruments and techniques to thoroughly clean all surfaces of your teeth, comfortably removing plaque, tartar and stains. Throughout your appointment, your hygienist will provide important home care instructions and answer all of your questions to help ensure a long lasting, healthy smile.
